First Express Entry Draw in April

Express Entry is a system that manages the pool of candidates for three federal economic immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Candidates in these programs are ranked based on their CRS score, which takes into account factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors that contribute to their ability to settle in Canada.

Canada Issues 3,500 Invitations to Apply in Latest Express Entry Draw on April 12, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted an all-program draw in the Express Entry system, inviting a total of 3,500 candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score for this draw was 486, which was slightly higher than the previous draw but still relatively low compared to earlier draws.

This latest draw follows three consecutive Express Entry draws in which 7,000 candidates were invited, and the CRS cut-off score has been gradually decreasing since December 2020. The most recent draw on March 29, 2023, saw the lowest CRS cut-off score in over two years, at 481.

The decrease in CRS cut-off scores and the increased number of invitations in recent draws suggest that the Canadian government is making efforts to attract more skilled immigrants to help address labor shortages and support economic growth. Canada has set a target of welcoming over 400,000 immigrants per year, and the Express Entry system is a key pathway for skilled workers to obtain permanent residence in Canada.

To be eligible for the Express Entry system, candidates must first create an online profile and enter the pool of candidates. They are then ranked based on their CRS score, and the highest-ranking candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence in regular draws that typically take place every two weeks.

If you have skills and experience that are in demand in Canada, the Express Entry system may be a good option for you to consider. With the CRS cut-off score continuing to decrease, now may be a good time to explore your options for immigrating to Canada through this program.
